Peter Lord was the 'top end' of the Clark's shoe company, and maintained a presence on the high street from before the second world war until 1990. These shoes have been stored for a long time - the leather was dull, and one of the heel tips had crumbled away completely - but having been submitted to a little TLC, they are ready to dance again!
According to my friend Kath, a lady who truly loves her shoes but now (aged 82) is limited in what she can wear, these are very much in the style of the 1930s, and, with no evidence to the contrary that is how they have been dated.
They have a little platform sole, a high heel, and tie - with a single pair of eyelets - over the instep. Part suede and part leather, they have been only very lightly worn; the lining still clearly reads 'Peter Lord '.
My own reservations about the dating are based partly on the amazingly good condition of these shoes (which is ridiculous), and partly on the heel, which reminds me of the 1970s; but I do agree about the style! A size 6, they are a little narrow for my feet: they measure approximately 3¼ inches (8.25 cms) across the widest part of the sole, 9¾ inches (25 cms) in length, and the heel is just over 3 inches (7.5 cms) high.
