Gorgeous Vintage wedding dress selling for charity! £350.00
This wonderful dress is being sold in aid of a West Dorset charity. Dating from the early 70s, it has been professionally handmade from a vintage Vogue pattern - so the style is older than the dress. It's the dress you dreamed of as a little girl - full-skirted and fabulous, fit for a fairy-tale princess!....

gorgeous 1930s prom/wedding dress £250.00
This dress is truly stunning! The main body has three layers, the outer plus two layers to shape and stiffen: the arms show what the top layer is like. It is tiny - I can't fit it onto a mannequin, the shoulders are too narrow - and probably pretty itchy to wear, but boy, it is gorgeous!....

1940s multi-layered wedding dress - reusable fabric £90.00
Glorious 1940s wedding dress, unfortunately not wearable, even if it fitted you, which is unlikely - it measure 31 inches at the bust and a mere 24 inches waist! Contructed on a full satin under-dress, with a stiff underskirt, it is topped with tulle which is pleated from the waist and embroidered and sequinned as you see in the pictures; there are some marks, but the dress is largely sound, so lots of usable fabric. For more information or photographs, please call us.....

Gorgeous vintage early 60s wedding dress by Jean Varon £180.00
If I were planning on getting married again - which currently seems unlikely, but never say never - this would be my dress! Full length and floaty, with a high, ruffled neck and sleeveless, it's ruched to the waist and has two long streamers from the back neck. ....

Simple 70s wedding dress with lace panel £150.00
Hand-made, from a soft, thick, cream man-made fabric, this dress is full length, with a high neck, no sleeves and a cut-out lace panel at the front waist. Figure-hugging, with a certain amount of stretch, it's in very good vintage condition and will fit size 10-12. For more information, do contact us.....

Vintage 50s white satin wedding dress - wear or re-use fabric £120.00
This heavy, white satin fabric is the exact colour of meringue mix - egg whites beaten with sugar - as exactly as shiny! The dress is very well made and deceptively simple, longer at the back than the front, with long sleeves fastening with six pearly buttons, but figure hugging; the exact opposite of the 'meringue' in fact! In perfect condition as far as I can see, it will fit a modern size 8-10. Please do contact us if you would like further measurements or information.....

Gorgeous 60s flower lace dress and matching jacket with bell sleeves £150.00
The dress is your classic 60s shift dress, short and sleeveless, covered in flowery lace; but add a hat and the matching, floaty coat and you've got an outfit that sings 'Here comes the bride!'....

Vintage 1960s pink mini dress with white at collar £39.00
This is a charming and very pink mini dress from the 1960s. It's in a man-made fabric with a slight nubby texture and has probably been professionally hand made.....

Vintage 1950s brown and white spotty sundress £42.00
This gorgeous dress has spaghetti straps and a very full skirt. The pattern is various sizes of polka dots on a plain ground, which fade from brown on white to white on brown. It appears never to have been worn.....

Vintage 1960s blue strappy sundress/slip dress £27.50
Here is a sweet little - well, you decide: nightie? underslip? sundress? Our model thinks it's the last, I suspect it's underwear - but who cares, these days? It's a simple shift shape in blue nylon with vibrant orange trim and flowers - very sexy, and very sixties!....

1960s vintage yellow/gold princess line evening dress £65.00

Classic vintage 1940s/50s yellow stripe shirt waist £50.00
This is a super dress for everyday: different, but not exceptional, and extremely wearable! It's a sweet little shirt-waist with a little collar, cap sleeves, and buttons all down the front. It originally had a belt, but unfortunately no longer, although the belt loops are still extant.....

Vintage 80s roseprint summer dress by Etam £16.50
OK, it's official - I am now too old for this dress (or possibly just too fat - but we won't go there!) I wouldn't mind so much, except that I've hardly worn it (perhaps I always was too old for it?)....

BNWT NVY party dress by Frank Usher £90.00
NVY stands for 'Not Vintage Yet' - and here, brand new and unworn, with the tags still showing the original price (195.50), is a recent and gloriously over the top creation from style guru Frank Usher, in lovely condition.....

Silky 70s(?) vintage poly dress with coach and horses print £40.00
There is something terribly endearing about this little dress, in a faded shade of blue with its coach-and-horses print. Having only the evidence of the dress itself to date it, I feel strongly there is something of the fifties about it, but I quite can't believe it's that old, so I'm playing safe; but whatever its age, it is truly sweet. ....

Vintage 60s cotton shift brown/white with flowers £52.00
Home made, from a most delightful cotton print which looks as if its been painted on - lovely water-colour colours, slightly uneven straight lines forming an open check pattern, with a nice blotchy border print of purple flowers.....

Vintage1950s vibrant striped dress by Blanes £110.00
Princess Mimi is a huge fan of Blanes dresses, and always has been - they are well-made and quirky, and this one is no exception! A vibrant summer frock in a vertical stripe, the pattern used to dramatic effect on the bodice and pockets, you won't find anything to beat this in any shop today!....

Gorgeous vintage hand-made 1950s full-length dress £60.00
This dress has been lovingly hand made, with a lined bodice, low back and apron front. It fastens with a long metal zip and hook and eye. The fabric is lovely, a heavy cotton in dull green with silvery-grey roses.....

Vintage 1970s hand-made dress with full, flirty skirt £40.00
I'm always saying, you can't tell anything about a dress (especially) until you try it on - and this is a case in point! Folded up in the trunk, it looked like nothing much; but when it's on it has the ability to really make you feel special! Made from a gorgeously floaty fabric, and nicely but not over fitted, it's the perfect dress for a pub date, or a night out with the girls!....

Vintage 1970s/80s, 1940s-style bright flowered 'New Look' dress by Czarina £44.00

Vintage late 60s or very early 70s cotton shift dress £35.00
This is a sweet and very simple little summer dress, with a pretty, square, notched neckline, fastening with a long zip at the back. Made of a cotton-feeling textured fabric it has no sleeves or pockets: perfect for the beach or park on a hot day!....

Vintage 60s pink dress with bow £48.00
The shops are full of retro sixties fashions again - and I've seen at least three versions of this dress so far! The original is always best, though, and this scores not only on the cut, but on the fabric, as well as the fact that it has not been mass-produced: it's one of a kind, and made with love!....

Vintage 50s shop girl blue shirt waist dress £45.00
Lovely little everyday dress in a heavy-woven fabric, in a flattering shade of blue with buttons at the front and contrasting white trim on the collar and pockets. I've added a wide leather belt - it needs a belt - which I think gives a slight air of 'uniform' which is apparently very sexy...but I'm afraid is not included in the sale!....

Vintage 1950s dress and jacket by Remarque £80.00
This stunning little linen wiggle dress with its short, boxy matching jacket will take you to work - or to a wedding, interview, or meeting - and straight out to play afterwards!....

1950s green metallic cocktail dress by Carnegie of London £120.00

Vintage 1960s American brown tweed straight dress with long sleeves £48.00

Vintage C&A check dress £38.00
The whole ethos of Princess Mimi is to offer you vintage pieces that you can wear, knowing you'll not bump into someone wearing the same thing, but not necessarily attracting too much attention to yourself (HRH, of course, is a virtual recluse these days, and insists she never was one to grab the limelight anyway....) On those terms, this dress ticks all the boxes: it's sweet and simple, versatile and stylish, but demure and restrained at the same time...and, while we can't claim it's an exclusive, there certainly aren't many like this around any more!....

Vintage 1950s, possibly early 60s, silky blue geometric priint dress £38.00
This is very much a 1950s print, but in a slightly more of a sixties style, so I'm hedging my bets a bit here! It's a simple style, very easy to wear and completely unique!....

Vintage 1950s blue/white print silky dress £48.00
I'm guessing this dress has been professionally hand made, as there are no labels, but it has been very well finished. It's a perfect summer dress, made from a lovely, silky feeling fabric which flows and feels cool against the skin; and the colour will enhance any tan! ....

Vintage 1950s/60s turquoise full skirt dress with belt £37.50
Made in a nice, heavy cotton, this truly is a dress for everyday! It's a traditional shirt-waister, with extra detail at the bust (I'm sure there's a name for this, but I don't know it...still, you get the idea from the pictures), a self belt and sensible pockets. It has a neat collar, elasticated waist, and full skirt (see measurements, below).....

Sweet and simple vintage 1950s/60s flowered summer dress, £42.00
This sweet little shift dress was hand made sometime in the late 50s or early 60s. It has a square neck, is in a delightful flowerpower printed textured cotton, and fastens up the back with a long zip and a hook and eye.....

Rare vintage 1960s XL print dress by Hilo Hattie £60.00

Vintage 1960s silky psychadelic tunic dress by Maxlim £45.00
I think this was what was called a 'sack dress': loose fitting, but fits at the bust, shaped out to the hips then slightly in to the hem, which is at the knee. This dress also has a round neck with roll collar, no sleeves, and is made from a fabulously silky fabric.....

Vintage 50s creamy fitted dress with bolero £90.00

Gorgeous vintage 60s lilac, easy-care dress with collar £32.50
Pretty and practical, this is a dress for everyday. In a heavy, man-made fabric, it has a round neck and short sleeves, but it's the collar that makes it special: round and simple, it nevertheless makes the dress!. It looks good with a belt, but can equally be worn without one (no belt loops).....

1950s/60s vintage smart dark wiggle dress and jacket £55.00
The thing I love above all other with vintage clothing, is how well it is cut. These days we are so used to the cheap 'n' cheerful , throwaway fashion of New Look, Peacocks, Primark and the like, that we don't really recognise well-cut clothes anymore: this is an outfit that looks like nothing much on the hanger, but really shows off the curves while minimising the bulges once you've got it on.....

1950s vintage neat day dress with polka dots £45.00

1950s vintage sweet red wool dress £47.50
This dress is just gorgeous! It's sweet-and-innocent looking, with a round neck, little cap sleeves and a sunburst of embroidery down the left side, but this is deceptively teamed with a fitted 'wiggle' cut, making it dead sexy (wear with patterned tights and killer heels) or, as my boyfriend described it 'luvverly!'....

Vintage late 60s/early 70s red glazed cotton party dress £60.00
The reason we sell so many clothes through parties, is because you really, really REALLY have to try vintage stuff on (which is also why we have our no quibble, no-cost-to-you returns policy). I freely admit I looked at this on the hanger, and thought,'oh, well, someone will love it - I expect...'; but when I saw it on the model, I just wondered whether I could squeeze myself into it!....

1950s vintage check print scoop back dress approx size 12 £65.00
Although this dress has been well worn - it's been repaired several times - the colours are still true and vibrant! Beautifully-cut 1940s silver party dress £175.00
This is one of the most beautiful dresses to come out of the boxes here at the Palace! completely stunning, it fits tightly from the bust to the hips, then flares out; the neck is yoked, somehow reminiscent of a 1930s gymslip school dress (think St Trinians...you see what I mean?) but with maximum exposure of flesh - dead sexy!....

1950s vintage big blue check gingham dress £65.00
This is a particularly well made dress, with - unusually - all the selvedges overlocked. Overlocking machines were in use from about 1920, but it's not really until the early 70s that their use became widespread; earlier than this, it really is a sign of quality!....

The print on this skirt is so typical of the early 50s or late 40s - a sort of homage to Mondrian, whose influence was profound and wide reaching. Iconic 1970s vintage waistcoat with suede belt £38.00
Somebody said recently that I'm over-fond of the word 'iconic'; that may be true, but I like to believe I only use it when it's appropriate, which is to say, when you find an item of clothing which could define a decade....as we have here! Put it with a polo neck, mini skirt and boots for instant hippy-chick glamour, or wear it with jeans, a long-sleeved tee-shirt and trainers, and it'll still betray its origins...when I first stumbled upon it, I thought '60s!'; further research suggest it is actually a seventies piece - but isn't that often the way?....

Black is famously hard to photograph, and we've done our best, but this little item was particularly difficult! The Lord Chancellor, who takes most of our photographs, became all unnecessary and had to lie down after the model decided that it isn't - as I happen to believe - a top, but a very, very short dress....admittedly, she wasn't quite showing her - er - underwear, but the LC is an old man and I think it would have been kinder, frankly, to have worn more underneath than she did!....

Vintage (late) 1950s silver lurex daisies top £27.50
Taking photographs of silver lurex is not easy unless, I guess, you're a professional photographer so I have to start with an apology: these pictures do not give you as good an idea of this sweet little top as we'd like! However, you can see the shape, length etc, and I hope get some idea. The shape is typical of the time: slightly fitted, sleeveless, with a round neck and buttoning at the back with five buttons (all original). The fabric is silver on silver lurex, with an all over pattern of flowers, which I think are daisies; given its age, and the delicacy of the fabric, it's remarkably well preserved, and vey wearable! Tweedy vintage 1970s coat by Alexon £80.00
There's something so nice about this coat, with its tweedy texture and subtle patterning! It's very seventies style - big, rounded collar, turn-back cuffs and flapped pockets - but it's been well made: the way the striped patterns has been used on the coat's features, and the fact it not only buttons right up to the neck but has a top and bottom poppa as well; and check out the rear half-belt with button trim!....

I swear on the poodle's life - the only creature to share its coat with this coat was a teddy bear! As you can see, however, with its deep pile and gloss, this looks pretty convincing. ....

Very rare, vintage 60s 'wolf' faux-fur coat £105.00
This is a gent's overcoat to release the inner spiv (or even pimp)! It probably should be listed under 'Other things' rather than here, but I've always been of the opinion that anything that looks good on a man can look even better on a girl, and - OK - I just couldn't resist it! ....

We all know photography is imperfect, even today: and I'm really fed up that none of these photos really capture the lovely subtle pinks, blues and purples of this mohair coat. Vintage 1940s/50s faux fur persian lamb jacket £90.00
Astrakhan, or Persian lamb, is the fleece of the Karakul lamb, which is black and tightly curled; I can promise you that no lambs were injured in the making of this soft, luxurious, and most cosy of jackets! It is, however, a very fair imitation: only if you have felt the real thing would you know the difference!....

Vintage 50s/60s funky boxy crimp jacket £25.00

Like all fox furs, from the right angle this one can look not only scary but downright mad...and, just to prove it, we have included a picture of poor ol'foxie's - well - not so good profile! This a clearly a quality item - much softer than is usual with these collars, it's also wider than is normal - it's got that gorgeous softness which is generally associated with mink. Vintage 1960s navy-blue one piece swimsuit by St Michael £28.00
This reminds me of the sort of swimsuit we were permitted to wear when I was at school; although now I come to think of it, I don't suppose we would have been allowed anything so fancy! Very well constructed, as you'd expect from this label, it has moulded cups, a modesty panel and a lined crotch; it is lightly elasticated at the back of the legs.....

1950s-style swimsuit by Gabar £82.50
Gabar is an American company which has been making and exporting swimsuits since the late forties or fifties; today, their costumes look much as they always have, because they are designed to flatter the female form, which makes it difficult to date this vintage-styles costume with any accuracy. ....

Vintage 80s bright floral funky one piece £30.00
Gorgeous, glorious, skirt-and-pants one piece swimsuit by good old M&S! I have no way of dating it except by what I've been told, but that seems about right to me; although, as the St Michael label was not retired until 2000, it is, I suppose, possible that it is slightly newer; certainly, you can't tell from the condition!....

Vintage 1930s ladies knitted swimsuit by Jantzen £75.00
I'm a lover of swimsuits, especially the cotton ones (which, consequently, you will rarely find for sale on this site), but I guess this is more of a curiousity than anything else...apart from anything else, is it really 'wearable vintage'? Well, probably not the beach; but possibly wearable elsewhere if you're brave enough!....

My fourteen-year-old, ultra-cool, ultra-glam niece 'borrowed' this costume to wear to a party (over fishnet tights) and was only found out when she flashed the photos (which she then refused to let us use)...the Princess went potty, of course, but the effect was excellent, largely because of the colours: neon blue on black It's a very classy suit!....

Vintage 1960s silky sundress by Rose Marie Reid £40.00
As an appreciater of vintage swimwear, I love Rose Marie Reid! I was really excited when we unearthed this, as I'd never seen anything other than swimsuits with her label... The label was started during the 1920s, but I believe this dates from the late sixties/early 70s. The clasp is good and firm, and, although not perfect, I can find no particular faults with it. Vintage 1950s lucite box bag by Majestic £280.00
For those of you who don't know: HRH Princess Mimi is the name of a very old poodle, who belonged to an extremely eccentric old lady (who happens to have been my great-aunt). When she died, my great-aunt left her house and all her possessions to the Princess , with the understanding that the possessions were to be sold to keep HRH in the manner to which she had become accustomed. Since then, I have trawled through the attics and wardrobes of this big, old house and presented for sale a number of delectable items through this website (inevitably, there was also a great deal of junk and less interesting stuff); and inevitably, I have occasionally come across items that I hesitate to sell - just yet!....

Vintage 70s white hard bag by Debonair £27.00
This is very similar to a bag owned by HRH in the very early 1960s, both in its shape and in the hardness of the casing - but that one was a clutch, whereas this been updated with a long single strap. Debonair, I believe, was the name given to accessories of the British Shoe Corporation, who owned most of the shoe shops on any High Street until about the early 80s, so it's likely this was originally produced to match a pair of shoes.....

Creamy-white vintage 60s evening bag with gold flowered beading £18.50
Sometimes I can write reams of prose about one of our lovely vintage goodies, but on this occasion, I'm going to let the pictures do (most of) the talking! Nice 1960s vintage taupe box bag by Essell £38.00
Taupe was a 'big' colour in the 1930s, which enjoyed a revival during the later sixties and into the very early 70s, by which time it was used for coats, dresses and skirts as well as accessories...personally, I find a little goes long way - with this handbag, perhaps shoes and gloves to match, no more - but there's no denying its versatility and usefulness........

Gorgeous late 50s/early 60s with flowers, by Marcus Brothers of Miami £60.00

Vintage Black Corde 1940s handbag with mother-of-pearl trim £90.00
The Corde bag was THE bag of the 1940s, with other materials being in short supply. Their advertisers stated this was 'the longest wearing of all handbag fabrics', and this has certainly been proved to be the case! A surprising number of these bags still exist - we have probably sold a good half-dozen in various styles ahd colours over the last ten years - but I have never seen one like this before! ....

Dinky vintage 60s mini duffle bag £28.00
The 60s were the decade when life became simpler: clothes, food, life in general moved away from the fussy and artificial, and the new generation threw off many of the constraints of the previous decades. This is exemplified, to my mind, by fashion: and a simple, attractive, practical, useful yet stylish little bag like this could belong to no other era!....

They've got it all: tactile velvet, long length, and this voile strip which teases by hiding and drawing attention to itself at the same time! ....

Vintage 1960s crochetted gloves £18.50
I've taken loads of pictures of these because they are so pretty, and I really want to show that.....you'll have to judge whether or not I've succeeded!....

Bright red leather-look short gloves £14.00
These gloriously red gloves have been well-loved, and show no signs of damage, althoughthere are marks on the right palm - I will endeavour to remove these. A somewhat smaller size, they have no labels, and a cosy knitted lining; I've described them as 'short' as they come to just the top of the wrist. The middle finger measures approximately 2 inches (7 cms).....

Vintage 60s, unworn, very dark brown , cosy-lined gloves £16.00
Clearly unworn - they are still joined - these leather-look gloves have a warm knitted liningand are in excellent condition! Both still have their labels, which state they are size 6 (with a superscript 2), style number 3427, and Made in England. Although they do look black in the photographs, they are actually a very dark brown. Approximate length of the middle finger is 3 1/4 inches/8 cms, making these a size 7.....

Vintage 50s thick cotton black, bracelet-length gloves £16.00
There are no labels on these gorgeous, thick, sexy gloves, so I can tell you very little about them! They appear to be made from cotton, and are semi-evening length: which is to say, they come up to where a bracelet-length sleeve would stop! In, as far as I can see, anyway, perfect condition, the middle finger measures approximately 3 inches/9 cms; so by my reckoning, these are a size 7.....

Vintage 50s black leather/cotton mesh lady's driving gloves £15.00
Classic leather and cotton driving gloves, admittedly, slightly tatty - as in, obviously used - they have elasticated cuffs, leather palms and knitted string backs. In generally good condition, there are small marks on the back of the right first finger and back of left hand. They are stamped inside, 'Made in England 886'; the middle finger measures approx 3 inches (9cms), which makes them a size 7 .....

1950s black fishnet gloves with artificial silk palms £16.00
Made by Dents, these unusual gloves have a mesh back and thumb, and artificial silk palm, as I hope you can see from the pictures (I do hate photographing black!). In apparently perfect condition, they are marked size '7 'Dent's Made in Malta'; the middle finger measures approx 3 inches (9cms)....

Vintage dark blue fabric gloves by Fownes £16.00
Lovely blue fabric gloves have a suede-y feel on the outside, and a smooth inside. The inside of the right glove has been printed with size (7), the maker's name 'Fownes', with something underneath which could be 'Gloves'; then an indecipherable line, then 'Made in England'. The name 'Fownes' has been synonymous with quality gloves since the early 18th century; and these show their pedigree by their condition. The middle finger measures approximately 3 inches/8 cms. In excellent vintage condition, with no faults that I can see. ....

Early C20th 'tea party' lace gloves with pink ribbons £60.00
Delicate, but more robust and with more stretch than you would expect - that's my hand, and I take a standard size 7 - these beautiful gloves will require help to put on; at least, there was no way I could tie the ribbon bows myself!....

Very yellow 1950s/60s cotton gloves £16.00
Very pretty, these probably originally had a matching hat and handbag! A standard short length, they have extra detailing at the wrists, and are a colour reminiscent of custard powder (which, if you didn't know, is not the same colour as custard!) There are no labels, and a few, very minor, signs of wear; the middle finger measures approx 3 ins /8 cms, so I think these are a size 7.....

Genuine Victorian mittens - late C19th £80.00
These are actually antique - over 100 years old - rather than just vintage (a mere twenty-five!) but you really can't tell from the condition! Long, lacey mittens, designed for modesty not warmth, probably machine-made, with stretch as well as style!....

Vintage 1920s?30s? gloves £18.00
These came out of a bos of Victoriana, but I think they are later; from their length and the slight gauntlett effect, I'm guessing at the 20s or 30s. They have lacy backs, including the fingers, and all round lace at the wrists. Cafe-au-lait in colour, in generally good condtion for their age - two tiny holes, one in each, which I have photographed - very wearable, and definitey different! Middle finger measures approx 3 ins/7.5 cms.....

Vintage 1950s crochet with cuff detail £10.00
Very pretty 1950s or so very wearable string-coloured crochetted gloves have wrist and back detail and have almost certainly been home made. Smart and useful - this colour will work all year round - they have a small amount of stretch, although the wrist detail does slightly restrict this area. Overall length, 9 ins, length of middle finger 3 ins (unstretched) approximately (23.5/7.5 cms). There is a mark on the inside of the right thumb, not particularly noticeable in wear, but hence the price.....

Funky vintage 1950s or 60s orange feather hat £38.00
This is an amazing hat! Bright orange feathers waft gently as you wear it! The base is a white silky fabric, very clean, and the feathers are in perfect condition - it appears to be unworn. I'm not sure of the age: the shape, fabric and style are all typical of the fifties, but the colour is verging on the psychedelic, which makes me think it may be later.....

Vintage1940s/50s glossy feather hat by Hi-Aims, £32.00
It is the depth of the colours of the feathers that make this hat! The shape is classic and simple, but the colours range through black, green and red, glossy and supremely beautiful!....

Vintage 1950s or 60s blue and white hat £40.00
This hat makes such a statement! It's a style popular in the later 50s/early 60s, a cloche (or even a beanie) shape with a big, turned up brim, a logical extension of the turban trend.....

Vintage1930s maroon velvet hat £30.00
This is a great winter hat! It's a deep maroon colour, with lots of texture and light in the fabric, and has a matching satin ribbon and a brim which sort of folds up on itself. There are no labels, so it may have been home made - although there is nothing of the amateur about it!....

50s/60s pink raffia Fredson hat £29.00
It is said that, if you are bored at a wedding, you should count pink hats - which are, of course, the only colour hats to wear to a wedding...and here's one which fits the bill perfectly! A shaped base - lower at the back - is covered with a ribbed fabric and toppped with tiny, shiny raffia bows....

Vintage1940s amazing oyster-coloured hat with pink roses £36.00
This is a hat for an occasion! In creamy-white fabric, swathed in net and shaped higher at the front, it is topped with pinky-apricot coloured roses, surrounded with petals. At the back, the net is held with a long narrow bow.....

Vintage 1960s white net brimless hat with flowers and leaves £40.00
Such a sweet little hat! Unlined and unlabelled, swathes of white netting cover the base; the edges are wired, and the front is decorated with artificial roses...simple, but so effective!....

1960s vintage pink swathed hat with veil - very Mad Men £35.00
From the top, this looks like a glorious, pink rose! It's an early 1960s hat, very Jackie Kennedy or Betsy Draper, brimless, with a fairly high crown, simply swathed in swirls and layers of fabric, topped with a spotted net and finished (at the back) with a bow!....

Vintage1950s brown hat with buckle bow by Panda £40.00
We tend to take photographs in batches; this was part of a batch of a dozen hats, and easily my favourite! It's made from a textured fabric, very business-like, in a dark brown, and fits like a cap; but then at (what is technically) the back is this buckle feature.....

Vintage1940s blue felt hat by Jacoll £35.00
During the war, as we know, clothing was rationed (out of 40 coupons a year, a coat would take 16, a suit or 'costume' 12); the exception was hats - no coupons required - hurray! Hence, I imagine, the injunction to the woman suffering a fit of the blues to cheer herself up by buying a new hat; and who could fail to be cheered by this one? In a delicate shade of powder blue, it not only has a pleasingly curved shape, but is trimmed with a bow as well!....

Vintage 1940s/50s mink beret £37.50
Here is a lovely beret-style hat made from a long-staple fur, which I believe to be mink. It appears to have been made from two pieces, one for the crown and the other for the sides. It is lined with black satin. There is no label. ....

1940s vintage pale mink beret by Eatons £35.00
Eaton's Department store was founded in 1869 in Toronto, with the revolutionary idea of selling goods at one price (rather than allowing customers to haggle). Its advertisements promised 'Sound goods, good styles and good value' - not exactly snappy by modern standards!....

Vintage 1940s/50s American multi-feather pill box hat £45.00
This is a glorious feather hat in earthy shades. Some of the feathers seem to have been dyed, some are even two-tone, and others are apparently natural. From a distance it looks as if made from multi-coloured fur!....

1970s vintage breton cap £21.50
This is a vintage Breton cap from the first time they became fashionable - the 1970s. Now, of course, they've come around again! It's made of dark blue corduroy.....

Vintage 1960s furry grey big-crown trilby by Charter Hats £15.00
The main difference between a trilby and a homburg is that the latter has a brim of even width: the brim of this wonderful item narrows at the back, hence - despite the high-ish crown - I believe it should be described as a trilby. It bears no relationship to those dreary work-a-day objects worn by the male of the species, however - this is, as you can see, at the very least a jaunty addition to an outdoor outfit, at best a personal statement!....

Vintage 70s brown open work hat £40.00
This delightful, wide-brimmed hat has been made from ribbons of woven nylon filaments, which turn under and over each other in ever decreasing circles! It's unusual, and very striking!....

Glorious 1940s half-hat by Manning of London £45.00
Completely gorgeous, the colour of raspberry sorbet, this little hat will fit most heads and draw admiration...made from a stunning textured fabric on a metal frame, edged and trimmed with velvet ribbon, it has a little net and is adorned with pearl beads. Designed to be worn towards the back of the head - but however suits you is always best! - it measures 8 by 11 inches (20 by 28 cms) at the widest points.....

Vintage Dunn & Co check flat cap with adjustable crown £18.00
The 'Baker Boy' cap - with the option for a full or flatter crown - has been a unisex favourite since the 1930s, and still enjoys periodic revivals today - and no wonder! Flattering and practical, it suits most, can be worn forwards or backwards, and will keep your head warm and your hair dry in the worst of the weather! ....

Vintage 1960s 'leopard fur' skull cap £32.00
I'm not an expert on fur - although I am sometimes so fortunate as to be permitted to groom Princess Mimi herself - and, to be honest, it's a bit of an elephant in the room around here. Of course HRH - or any of us - could never support the killing of animals for their pelts, but any fur that comes our way is so old that the originals grand-children have died of old age decades ago...all of which is by way of apology for not being able to be more informative about the composition of this little number!....

Vintage 60s Swedish army cap with Russian badge £35.00
In very good condition, an unusual felt hat to wear in the rain, or just for the style! It has a chin strap, which sits around the crown when not required, and has been adorned with a Russian army badge for a spot of colour.....

This is a 'big cap' - not just a fashion item, it really is designed to keep your head warm, with that extra flap at the back which is a feature of some caps from this era.....

Vintage1930s turban hat with fancy net top, by Selfridges £38.00
Selfridges has been around since 1909, and this hat is a classic style - but I don't think it's as old as that! It's fairly shallow in the crown, wired at the brim, with swathes of fabric at the sides catching to a knot, turban-style; the crown is a darker green covered with decorative veiling.....

Vintage 1940s turban by Bermona £30.00
During the second world war, with so many women working in factories, the turban was an immensely popular style of hat; in my experience, this is still the case today, and deservedly so - bad hair day? Stick it under your turban!....

1940s multi-coloured feather hat £40.00
Shallow crowned, multi-coloured, absolutely gorgeous feather hat - the colours go with just about everything but my hair! Like all feather hats, it needs to be treated gently, but is generally in excellent condition.....

Vintage 50s red felt gaucho hat £20.00
Lovely fedora-style felt hat in red, with a broad brim, and band with bow - a gent's hat for the girls, in fact! Wear the brim up, fedora style, or down, to shade your eyes - either way, it will look great!....

Gorgeous vintage 1970s tulle cartwheel hat £48.00
This is an absolutely glorious broad-brimmed hat, covered in ruffles and layers of tulle - unique and stylish! It would be wonderful for a wedding, or - being black - equally suitable for a funeral, smart enough for the races, demure enough for Sunday Church....I love it!....

Vintage 1930s black straw Charter hat £60.00
The problem with this business is that very few garments come with a history; they just come out of a trunk in the attic. Here is a 1930s-style hat in unworn condition, and it is absolutely perfect - so perfect, in fact, that I want to date it later; but the shape is so very '30s, even to the bun-shaped crown, I'm been forced to conclude it's simply looking very good for its 80-odd years!....

vintage 60s/70s pink raffia hat £20.00
Gorgeous raffia sunhat with a broad, pleated brim and the high crown typical of the era. It's a very pretty shade of pink, just nodding in the direction of coral, and in excellent condition.....

Vintage 50s ruffled velvet pill box style hat £28.00
Lovely russet brown velvet hat, dating from the 1950s or early 60s, probably home made and very wearable (I'd keep it myself, but it clashes with my hair!). Very clean inside (unworn?) and with no visible faults, it measures approximately 3 ins/7 cms deep, 21 ins/53 cms circumference.....

Rare and lovely vintage 1950s black and white velvet hat £50.00

1950s vintage black/gold fabric stiletto shoes £60.00
These shoes are so beautiful: if my feet were only slightly smaller, I would keep them for myself! They are by Dolcis 'Soiree', made from an opaque, netted fabric with black embroidery, lined with gold coloured leather around the toes and heels, and finished with a gold heel and trim around the tops.....

1970s vintage seriously soft cream buckled shoes £60.00
These are really gorgeous, soft cream leather shoes in the style of the fifties, with smart buckle detail and a narrow heel. They have been scarcely, if ever worn, and are in all-round excellent condition; approx size 5 ½.....

1960s/70s vintage bronze metallic leather flats by Gabor £25.00
This is a neat lttle pair of 'go anywhere' shoes, comfortable and stylish, and with the woven uppers so fasionable in the mid-fifties. Although there are marks on the soles, I do believe these shoes have scarcely been worn, since all the internal marks are so clear, and the original 'G' is still on the sole. They are nearly big enough for me...but not quite!....

Vintage Kurt Geiger cream courts with bows £42.00
Lightly used, and supremely elegant, these creamy-white court shoes will add classic vintage chic to many outfits!....

I love these! They are so shiny, so sexy, in such good condition, and the style is so much back in vogue!....

Vintage flat white patterned shoes £10.00
I intended listing these shoes under 'other things' as I have no idea how old they are: in fact, I know very little about them at all! They were bought as part of a job-lot of American pieces from the 50s (along with, for example, a delightful red Boy Scout's jacket listed under 'others' until I get some more jackets together!), most of which were in perfect or near-perfect condition and provenance as stated...but I have no idea about these shoes!....

Vintage 60s-style shoes with double straps by Clarks, size 6 £27.50
Well worn, but well looked after, these sling backs in two-tone pewter reek of the sixties, from the shape of the heel to the shapely toe!....

Vintage 1920s (or earlier?) green velvet shoes £180.00
These shoes belonged to my Grandmama, who was born in the year 1900 and was very much one of the 'Bright Young Things'; so I have, of course, always believed them to be flapper shoes. However, they were recently borrowed by the local museum for an exhibition on accessories, and they also displayed an almost identical pair - same stitching, and marks inside, same shape but flat - dated 1820.....so now I don't know!....

Vintage 1950s-style gold and white sling-back shoes £33.00
Worn, but with no appreciable signs of damage, are these summery sling-black shiny shoes. The upper is of woven leather, the soles are leather too; the elegant heel is a comfortable two inches (5 cms).... just the thing to enhance your summer outfits!....

Black patent with gold trim, by Renata Signorina £40.00
Gorgeous, stylish, smart but sensible...I love these shoes! OK, I admit to a definite bias in favour of patent; and seeing as these are as 80s as Princess Di, they'd HAVE to have a bit of bling as well - but they manage all this with panache and charm!....

Genuine 1960s, but not genuine snakeskin, these are THE boots of the 1960s! REaching to the knee, they have a rounded toe, and the typical 60s low, square, heel. size 6 or 7....

Vintage 1930s-style brown suede/leather brogues by Peter Lord £70.00
Peter Lord was the 'top end' of the Clark's shoe company, and maintained a presence on the high street from before the second world war until 1990. These shoes have been stored for a long time - the leather was dull, and one of the heel tips had crumbled away completely - but having been submitted to a little TLC, they are ready to dance again! ....

Vintage glass-topped hat pin £12.50
This 1950s pin is special due to the way it catches the light. HRH has often told me that the whole point of a hat is to emphasise the eyes (she's not thinking of your woollen bobble pull0on, clearly) and she's particularly keen on this pin, because, apparently, it 'brings out the twinkle' - in your eyes, presumably!....

1950s Poodle brooch, possibly by Joseff Hollywood £24.50

1950s vintage mink brooch in original box £18.00
If you only have one brooch for your fifties costume, it should be this one! It is sooo typical of the era. Vintage 50s 'amethyst and diamond' screw-clip earrings £18.00
The fifties was possibly the first decade when the wearing of fashion jewellery - not 'good' jewels - was socially acceptable; there was even a big debate in the women's maagazines about whether or not false pearls were acceptable (the verdict? fine, so long as they are obviously false). so I'm ceertainly not claiming that these are real jewels - just that they are really sparkly!....

Vintage 1950s green necklace £48.00
Every now and again, we get the urge to educate, so sit up straight at the back and answer this question: what is pogonophobia? Don't know? Well, actually neither did I, until about 10 minutes ago, when one of the girls said to me 'That necklace is a pogonophobic's nightmare.' ....

Big, brash, and unashamably false, this epitomises the 50s fascination with costume jewellery! This full slip has, I think, been hand made. It has adjustable spaghetti straps, a fitted bust, and is trimmed with deep black lace at the neck and hem. Vintage liberty bodice £28.00
'Liberty' referring to freedom from corsets - and what a relief it must have been! I believe these are a version of a young person's underwear, developed for ease of movement - for example, for drill or Physical Culture, at school or elsewhere - this being a time (up to around the late 50s/early 60s) when a girl was put into a corset as soon as she started developing a figure.....

Vintage hand painted silk scarf with doves £16.00
Big is certainly beautiful - and this is so big, it almost belongs in Wraps! - but sometimes it's a question of function, rather than size that counts. This gorgeous, out-size head scarf could be your security blanket: use it to cover your shopping if you feel vulnerable, as a belt or emergency dog-lead, to carry objects or protect them from harm, tie it as a top or protect your shoulders from the sun...or, of course, you could always wrap it round your head to protect your hair!....

1980s-style sunglasses £17.50
Vintage? Non-vintage? I've really no idea. I do know these came from Accessorize, because that is what the label says; I know they are very typical of the 80s in style; and I happen to know that the first Accessorize store was opened in the early 1980s - but other than that, I'm afraid you'll have to make your own mind up!....

60s vintage wrtiting set, red rosy case £12.00
I had one of these for my 8th or 9th birthday, but mine had coloured pencils. This is a somewhat more grown-up version: the pad is nice thick cartridge paper, and the pencils range from 6B to 5H. ....

Retro set of four storage tins £25.00
Very nice set of four storage tins, for anything from buttons and beads to screws and cup hooks; or, I suppose, you could use them for what it says on the outside - Coffee, Sugar, Flour and Tea! I believe they are American, and retro rather than vintage, but they are undeniably attractive in shades of russet brown and earthy yellow. Shabby chic, but in very usable condition, they fit neatly into each other, and measure between appproximately 8 and 5 inches (20 and 12 cms) in height, and 7 and 4 inches (17.5 and 11 cms) in diameter.....

Vintage 40s guitar player embroidered/applique tray cloth £14.00
This is the most gorgeous thing of its type I think I have ever seen: a tall, dark, handsome man plays his guitar in a serenade to his (unseen) lady...I just hope she appreciates him! The cloth itself (I've called it a tray cloth, but it could be any one of the dozens of useful bits of textile with which the 1940s home was adorned) is very pale yellow linen with a scalloped edge; it's been stored folded, but is undamaged and clean, and measures approximately 13 by 19 inches (34 x 48 cms).....
